Description
The Pistolet Makarova, or more simply the Makarov, resulted from a design competition for replacing the Tokarev TT-33 semi-automatic pistol and the Nagant M1895 revolver. In 1946, Nikolai Makarov headed the project and choose to based the pistol off of the Walther "Ultra", which was a larger variant of Walther PP pistol. In 1951, due to its simplicity, ease of manufacturing and reasonable stopping power, the Makarov inducted into service in both the Soviet military and police. While it was eventually replaced by a more modern pistol in 2003, the Makarov is still used in numerous Russian military and police units and are still the standard issue side arm for numerous Eastern European and South East Asian countries.
The KWA Makarov MKV is an excellent replica of the ubiquitous Soviet / Russian service pistol. Even with its full metal construction the MKV is a very compact and lightweight airsoft pistol. Simplistically designed, the MKV does not offer a lot in terms of flair, but that is the nature of its purely functional purpose. The pistol features a rather beefy slide release as well as a safety lever that doubles a decocker. The polymer grip panel is curved to make holding the very comfortable and is textured for a more positive grip. Unique to the Makarov's design, the magazine release is located on the underside of the pistol grip to reduce the chance accidentally dropping the magazine. The KWA MKV uses KWA's revolutionary NS2 gas system for a more crisp and efficient blowback system.
